Rumors had been floating around about the Hikaru a while back and the project was thought to be scrapped. It looks like Sony Ericsson broke out the defibrillators because this 8 megapixel gem has a pulse once again. Even though we’ve already hit the 8 megapixel mark, there’s definitely always room for another high-end shooter. At this point, it almost seems like SE can do no wrong – what with the Xperia and Walkman phones out on the loose. We’re not quite sure what category this phone will be in but you know the camera will likely be hawt as most SE camera phones are, and it will be packing at least 8 GB of internal storage. The slider might be a QWERTY or alphanumeric, but one would image it would be the former since it’s coming standard on so many phones these days. So far, details and images are limited (the mockup there was done by Unwired View) but you know we’ll be on it like no one else.

For the first time Live pictures of the Sony Ericsson Alicia. And as we can see the eccentric circle screen is back on a bunch of live photos, but still no specs on Alicia yet. We can definitely tell that it will have Walkman like features everything else is a mystery.

A touch-sensitive round dial looks great while another external display above pretty much makes the Sony Ericsson W707 the first GSM to feature three screens. Read more

There it is, Sony Ericsson just went live with its new G705 powerhouse, 3G slider. Just as we heard, it sports a 2.4-inch display with automatic screen rotation courtesy of an accelerometer, WiFi, aGPS with Google Maps for Mobile, 1GB included M2 memory, built-in FM radio, RSS reader, and full HTML browser. It also features a 3.2 megapixel cam that can capture video and then upload directly to YouTube under a new partnership with Google. Also announced in a UMA variant (G705u) — an SE first — built exclusive for Orange to bridge GSM and WiFi networks. Headed to the US in Q1 2009.

Following on the heels of its main rival Nokia, Sony Ericsson’s allegedly also planning an unlimited music downloading service for its Walkman-branded cellphones. According to the Financial Times, Sony Ericsson is in discussions with all major labels about a rival tunes subscription service. The company is purportedly hoping to announce its all-you-can-eat music product before the end of September, with a launch date in Europe before Christmas. Right now, Walkman phones function on a pay-per-track business model, with roughly 5 million un-DRM-ed songs available.
